GAMBICA, the UK’s leading trade association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation, and Laboratory Technology, has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to sustainability.

At this year’s Trade Association Forum Awards, held on Thursday, 27th of February, CAFA had the honour of presenting GAMBICA with the Environment & Sustainability Initiative Award. The accolade acknowledges the association’s groundbreaking Environmental Impact Survey and its dedication to driving sustainable industry practices.

The Trade Association Forum Awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and leadership among UK trade bodies. GAMBICA’s achievement underscores its ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility and lead the industry toward a greener future.

Pioneering a Sustainable Future With Industry Research And Benchmarking

GAMBICA’s Environmental Impact Survey is a pioneering initiative that empowers businesses to track their footprint, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to industry-wide sustainability efforts.

By providing an easy-to-use activity-based form, members can record their annual energy usage, waste production, and travel data. The survey then converts this information into CO₂ equivalent emissions, allowing companies to set tangible reduction targets.

As a result, GAMBICA is measuring the industry's environmental impact, which is a crucial first step in addressing industry impact both through member-facing measures and policy engagement. This allows for industry-wide benchmarking, where companies can evaluate their impact against industry trends. Aggregated, anonymised data creates a sector-wide benchmark, giving businesses insight into broader trends and best practices. Not only that, the tool also includes guidance about how to reduce their emissions once assessed.

This forward-thinking approach ensures that organisations are not only reducing their carbon impact but also improving efficiency and lowering operating costs.

GAMBICA: Leading by Example

GAMBICA’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond their Survey. Through its Environmental Regulatory Group (ERG), GAMBICA helps businesses stay ahead of key environmental legislation, including WEEE, RoHS, EuP, REACH, and Batteries regulations.

By organising regular presentations and discussions, the ERG provides a collaborative platform for companies to understand and influence regulatory developments. This proactive stance enables businesses to anticipate changes, mitigate risks, and seize opportunities in the green economy.

The association also engages in responsible policy engagement and actively lobbies policymakers to support industries that drive energy efficiency, pollution reduction, and sustainable manufacturing, identifying the automation and instrumentation sector as a cornerstone of the UK's transition to clean energy and electrification of end-uses.

This is especially true when considering the release of the Seventh Carbon Budget for the UK by the Climate Change Committee, that explicitly emphasises the central role of clean technologies - and mirrors the great work that BEAMA are doing to support this transition.

As Steve Brambley, GAMBICA Chief Executive, stated:

Any steps in improving efficiency, reducing resource consumption and minimising waste will not only have a positive impact on the environment but result in cost saving and a more competitive business.”

Congratulations again to GAMBICA for this well-earned award. Their dedication to environmental responsibility is not only shaping a greener future for their members but also strengthening the UK’s position as a leader in sustainable industrial practices.
